BETHESDA, Md.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 1, 2002--James R. Mellor, chairman of the board of directors of USEC Inc., announced today the appointment of Michael H. Armacost to the Company's board.
Armacost was president and trustee of the Brookings Institution, positions he held from 1995 until his retirement last week. For more than 20 years, he served in presidential administrations as an expert on national security and Asian affairs. Twice, he was a U.S. ambassador, most recently to Japan, from 1989 to 1993, and to the Philippines, from 1982 to 1984. From 1993 to 1995, Armacost was the Walter H. Shorenstein distinguished fellow and visiting professor in the Asia/Pacific Research Center at Stanford University, a position he will return to in the fall.
"Mike is one of the nation's preeminent authorities on national security and foreign policy," said Mellor. "His distinguished record of public service, as well as his experience on other public company boards, will make him a strong advisor to USEC on a wide variety of issues."
